Short Description

A handcrafted ceramic relief surface composed of large-format square modules featuring raised geometric and circular forms. Finished in layered sea-green, mineral blue and weathered celadon tones, the field combines sculptural depth, atmospheric glazing and architectural texture to create a richly tactile surface condition.

Product Description

Sea Relic Field (C6NQJH-WS) is a handcrafted ceramic relief surface produced by the VLVLK Team.

Constructed from large-format square ceramic modules, the surface combines a calm chromatic field with sculptural protrusions that emerge from the plane. Geometric fragments, circular forms and abstract relief elements are distributed across the field, creating a composition that shifts between surface, object and architectural installation.

The field is intentionally material-led and tactile. Variations emerge through glaze chemistry, relief geometry, kiln atmosphere and hand-finishing rather than decorative imagery. At close range, each tile reveals nuanced differences in glaze pooling, mineral deposits, speckling, edge definition and surface depth. At architectural scale, the installation reads as a unified field of weathered artefacts embedded within a coastal mineral landscape.

The resulting surface evokes archaeological fragments, weathered maritime objects, submerged relics and geological formations shaped by time, water and erosion.

Suitable for residential, hospitality and commercial environments where strong material presence and sculptural character are desired.

Installation

This surface has been curated to honour the individuality of each piece.

Due to the relief depth and sculptural geometry, installation layout should be reviewed prior to fixing to ensure the intended balance of shadow, rhythm and composition is maintained across the field.

Product Note

You will receive the same or a closely related blend to the images shown.

As part of the Wabi-Sabi Edition, each production batch retains controlled variation and may be further customised through bespoke colour, relief and field curation upon request.

Visualisation Note

Project visualisations may include digitally generated environments used to explore spatial possibilities.

While the surrounding setting may be conceptual, the ceramic surface itself is an authentic VLVLK material system designed and produced within our studio.

These visualisations are intended to assist with understanding potential interactions between material, light and architecture. They should be interpreted as exploratory studies rather than fixed installation specifications.

Final outcomes are influenced by project-specific curation, layout decisions, lighting conditions and installation context.

Wabi-Sabi Edition

This surface belongs to the VLVLK Wabi-Sabi Edition.

The edition embraces controlled variation as an essential component of ceramic authorship. Rather than pursuing industrial uniformity, it celebrates the nuanced differences that emerge through material behaviour, sculpting, glazing and firing.

Pieces may exhibit:

• Tonal variation
• Relief variation
• Glaze pooling
• Mineral speckling
• Surface movement
• Minor dimensional variation
• Authored variation across the field

These characteristics contribute to the visual depth, individuality and architectural presence of the installed surface.

Light & Shadow

Light and shadow form a fundamental component of the field experience.

As illumination changes throughout the day, raised relief elements create shifting shadows and highlights that continuously alter the perception of depth, texture and atmosphere.

The field rewards both close inspection and architectural-scale viewing, revealing different qualities under changing natural and artificial lighting conditions.

Controlled Variability

Each piece is individually influenced by clay body, sculptural construction, glaze application and firing behaviour. Variations in tone, density, surface character and relief expression are expected and form part of the intended field condition.

These variations should be interpreted as authored characteristics of the work rather than manufacturing defects.v
