SURFACE CHARACTER

BG97XA-WS is a field-scale evolution of WTZ1LK-WS, developed to support larger surface areas without visual saturation.

Hand-painted pictorial tiles—marine, botanical, and abstract in language—are interspersed with plain green ceramic units. This calibrated reduction introduces moments of pause, allowing the surface to breathe while retaining authored expression.

The image demonstrates:
• a deliberate alternation between expressive and quiet units
• deep green planes acting as visual ballast
• painterly tiles operating as episodic accents rather than continuous narration
• increased field coherence at scale

This is not a diluted version of the painted system; it is a re-authored field logic.

FIELD CALIBRATION NOTE

This edition is composed with approximately 40% plain green units integrated into the field.

The green proportion may be:
• increased for larger installations
• reduced for more pictorial density
• adjusted to suit light conditions or architectural rhythm

Field ratios are curated rather than fixed and can be developed in consultation with the studio.

INSTALLATION INTENT

This surface is curated, not patterned.

Installation references indicate:
• distribution logic between painted and plain units
• pacing across horizontal and vertical fields
• tolerance for irregular registration and grout articulation

They are not layouts to be replicated. Final placement relies on informed on-site judgement to maintain balance, depth, and calm across extended surfaces.

Over-concentration of painted tiles or forced regularity will compromise the intended reading.

MATERIAL NOTE

You will receive the same or a closely related painted set and green blend as shown.

Exact imagery placement and painted frequency are not guaranteed.
Wabi-Sabi editions may be custom-developed upon request, including alternative green tonal ranges or adjusted density ratios, subject to studio review.

AVAILABILITY

CURATION & VARIATION — WABI-SABI EDITION

This surface forms part of the Wabi-Sabi Edition, where variation is an authored and controlled condition.

Visible characteristics may include:
• painterly variation between expressive units
• tonal drift within the green field tiles
• glaze pooling, speckling, or micro-fracture
• soft deformation or edge irregularity
• irregular grout articulation

Occasional minor body cracking may be present. When included, these characteristics are visible in reference imagery and are integral to the surface identity — not defects.

Each installation is singular, balanced, and materially alive.

LIGHT & SURFACE RESPONSE

The integration of plain green units moderates light behaviour across the field.

Painted tiles activate depth and narrative under changing light, while green planes absorb and stabilise the surface. The result is a surface that remains expressive at proximity and calm at architectural distance.

If needed later, BG97XA-WS can support:
• a formal field-ratio specification (e.g. 40/60, 50/50, 30/70), or
• termination and transition logic when moving between BG97XA-WS and WTZ1LK-WS zones.
