CURATION NOTES:
“This captivating ceramic surface is a harmonious blend of geometric form and artistic spontaneity. It features square tiles, each measuring approximately 150x150mm, which have been skillfully carved into the elegant shapes of Roman arches. The inner portions of these arches remain an integral part of the composition.
The arches exhibit a deliberate contrast in their ‘legs,’ with some being tall and slightly flared, while others have straighter, shorter ‘legs.’ This dynamic interplay of form adds depth and intrigue to the piece.
The artist has employed a masterful combination of matte and glossy glazes, strategically covering approximately 20% of the surface. The canvas bursts forth with a vibrant and intuitive explosion of colors. Bright yellows, blues, reds, oranges, and an array of other hues converge in a symphony of creativity, creating a visually captivating and emotionally evocative ceramic masterpiece.”
Note: This surface is a Wabi-Sabi edition: Wabi-sabi is the view or thought of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature. It is about the aesthetic of things in existence, that is “imperfect”.
Wabi-Sabi embraces the inherent characteristics of handcrafted ceramic products like the inherent defects & characteristics, - for example: size, shape, colour, and shade variations, cracks, crazing, bowing and lateral deformation, as well as size and colour differences, and irregular grout lines.
Texture plays with the light and shadows resulting in a harmonious installation.
