SURFACE CHARACTER

T74JPV-WS is conceived as an expressive painterly field, operating between abstraction and material depth rather than pattern or motif.

Each unit carries a unique painted composition, built through layered gestures, splashes, washes, and kiln-driven reactions. Blues, mineral greens, ochres, charcoals, and stone tones interweave across the surface, creating a field that reads as atmospheric at distance and richly legible at proximity.

The image demonstrates:
• non-repeating painterly language across every unit
• controlled chaos balanced by a restrained underlying palette
• glaze pooling, splatter, and directional movement
• visible kiln interaction and surface tension

No two tiles are alike. Repetition is neither possible nor intended.

INSTALLATION INTENT

This surface is composed, not ordered.

Installation references supplied by the studio establish:
• pacing and density across the field
• distribution logic rather than alignment
• visual balance between active and quieter units

They are not diagrams to be replicated. Final installation relies on curatorial judgement on site, allowing the surface to resolve as a coherent whole rather than a sequence of individual tiles.

Mechanical sequencing or attempts at symmetry will undermine the intended reading.

MATERIAL NOTE

You will receive the same or a closely related painted field to that shown.

Exact colour placement, gesture, or distribution cannot be specified.
Wabi-Sabi editions may be custom-developed upon request, including tonal weighting, chromatic emphasis, or scale calibration, subject to studio review.

CURATION & VARIATION — WABI-SABI EDITION

This surface forms part of the Wabi-Sabi Edition, where variation is an authored condition rather than a tolerance.

Visible characteristics may include:
• pronounced painterly variance between units
• tonal drift and chromatic layering
• glaze pooling, splatter, and micro-fracture
• soft deformation, bowing, or edge irregularity
• irregular grout articulation

Occasional minor body cracking may be present. When included, these characteristics are visible in reference imagery and are integral to the surface identity — not defects.

Each installation is singular, expressive, and materially alive.

LIGHT & SURFACE RESPONSE

The layered glaze and painterly relief interact dynamically with light.

As lighting conditions shift, depth, translucency, and contrast evolve across the field. The surface resists a single fixed reading, remaining active, atmospheric, and spatially present over time.
