Beyond the Surface: Terminations
Every surface tells a story, but the way it ends defines its presence. At VLVLK, we refer to these finishing details as terminations. A termination is the edge, corner, or boundary where a surface meets another material or open space. It is both a structural necessity and a design statement.
Each termination is custom made to order. The form, glaze, and curve are shaped by hand to match the surface it completes. Some terminations can be supplied per linear meter, while others are developed exclusively through a design and R&D process for a particular project.
Examples of our custom terminations
External Terminations
Clean, continuous angles that wrap around corners or architectural forms. Ideal for walls or pillars where precision and visual flow are important.
Bullnose Terminations
Rounded finishes that soften the boundary of a countertop, bath surround, or bench. They add a tactile, polished edge and protect exposed surfaces.
Mitred Terminations
Sharp, refined joins that create uninterrupted geometry. Often used in contemporary spaces where seamless alignment matters most.
Curved Terminations
Gently formed internal or external corners that merge surfaces in a fluid transition. Often seen around sink cut outs or sculpted installations.
Stacked Terminations
Where texture continues around a form, ensuring the pattern wraps naturally. Often used for decorative facades or layered feature walls.
Trim Terminations
Defined edges that frame a wall or backsplash neatly, providing a clean and deliberate outline.
Three-Dimensional Terminations
Specially shaped pieces for complex corners or modular structures, maintaining continuity in both color and form.
